TOEFL Test Guide:
 
The Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL is designed primarily for people who wish to study in the United States and the need to demonstrate their English speaking skills. The test is based on classroom studies and is accepted by more than 6,000 institutions in 136 countries. This is the top English-language test and has been designed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Scores may be submitted to English-speaking countries, including USA, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and can be used to help gain acceptance into the best colleges and universities, to qualify for scholarships and graduation decisions.
 
The test subjects
 
The TOEFL includes four tests: reading, writing English Test, Test of Spoken English and listen. In a university, students are required to participate in class discussions, talk to other students and faculty, a critical analysis of texts and write clearly. Therefore, the test questions are designed to test the ability to speak in a regular classroom and succeed in college. The TOEFL is written in two formats, Internet (iBT) and paper (PBT). A format or both may be available in your testing center. The IBT is recommended in the PBT, as it is much broader.
 
Internet-Based Test (iBT)
 
The iBT includes sections on reading comprehension, listening, speaking and writing:
  • Reading Comprehension - This section presents three to five passages academics, followed by 12-14 questions about each step. This section has a total of 36-70 questions will be answered in a period of 60 to 100 minutes.
  • Listening - This section, examinees listen to lectures, including some discussion in the classroom and answer questions based on each conference. Candidates also listen to conversations and answer questions about the content. Candidates have up to five minutes to answer five or six questions on each lecture or conversation.
  • Speaking - Candidates are asked to talk about a general topic, such as describing a fond childhood memory. Candidates then read a passage or listen to a lecture, and then discuss four issues. The score in this section is based on verbal skills, development of thought, speech and other language skills. Twenty minutes is assigned.
  • Writing - Candidates for the examinations to write two essays, one on the answer to any of a reading passage or lecture, and supports an opinion on a particular topic. Fifty minutes are provided for the writing section.
The score for reading and listening comprehension range 0 to 30:
  • 0-14 - Low
  • 15-21 - Intermediate
  • 22-30 - High
The speaking and writing sections are evaluated by a certified appraiser, and the range of scores from 0 to 4 in speech, and 0 to 5 in writing. The ratings are converted to match the scale of 0 to 30 and is judged as follows:
Speaking:
  • 0-9 - Weak
  • 17.10 - Limited
  • 18-25 - Fair
  • 26-30 - Good
Scripture:
  • 01.16 - Limited
  • 17-23 - Fair
  • 24-30 - Good
Paper Based Test (PBT)
 
The PBT tests include listening comprehension, structure and written expression, reading comprehension and an essay:
  • Listening - Students have 30-40 minutes to answer 50 questions that assess how well you understand spoken English.
  • Structure and Writing - 25 minutes are given to 40 questions about the ability to recognize grammatically correct English.
  • Reading Comprehension - Candidates have 55 minutes to answer 50 questions about reading passages.
  • Test of Written English - In this section, examinees must write an essay on a topic in 30 minutes.
PBT scores are reported very differently than iBT scores. The total score of PBT extends from 310 to 677. Listening and the structure and range of scores from 31 to 68 writing and reading comprehension ranging from 31 to 67. Test scores can vary from 1 to 6 and, not considered in the overall score, are reported separately.
 
TOEFL Registration
 
Aspiring makers tests can find a testing center in 136 countries. The test candidates can register by mail or online through the Educational Testing Service. The PBT test fee is $ 150, while the iBT test fee varies from $ 150 to $ 185, depending on location.
 
Candidates must receive your qualifications within 30 days from the date of the test. Candidates who are not satisfied with their scores can retake the test after waiting a week.
 
Applicants should be sure to bring a photo ID and name and signature and registration number assigned during the registration process.
